Society of Actuaries - Case Study
A Human Look at Numbers: Case Study Video for Society of Actuaries
Actuaries may work in the world of numbers, but behind the equations are people with powerful stories to tell. That was the heart of our recent collaboration with the Society of Actuaries—a cinematic case study that followed one actuary’s journey from her early beginnings to her present-day work and passion.
At Coho Films, we don’t believe in generic corporate videos. This project called for something deeper: a human-centered portrait wrapped in a visually rich, story-driven format.
A Storyboarded Story, Told with Style
This wasn’t a run-and-gun shoot. We meticulously storyboarded each scene, scouted multiple Seattle locations, and crafted a visual approach that would feel more like a short film than a typical profile. From intimate interviews to atmospheric b-roll, we focused on what drives an actuary—not just what they do, but why they do it.
Using cinema-grade cameras, gimbal stabilization, and cinematic lenses, we gave the story a polished, emotionally resonant look. Multiple wardrobe changes and environmental setups added texture to the narrative, helping viewers understand the full arc of her career and character.
More Than Math
The actuary at the center of the film opened up about her roots, her motivations, and her evolving role in the profession. The result is a video that demystifies the actuarial field, while giving younger generations a real, relatable glimpse into what the work looks like—and what it means.
By putting a face to the profession, the Society of Actuaries was able to connect with its audience on a more emotional level, and we’re proud to have helped make that happen.
