Tom has over a decade of experience directing unscripted and corporate videos.
He loves being involved early on to ensure creative concepts hold true throughout each stage of production and that the crew and client are setup for success. To do this, he will create story outlines, beat sheets, AV scripts, storyboards and additional creative production documents to ensure everyone involved knows what to expect.
With his background in Journalism, he is comfortable directing non-actors to get authentic performances that translate to engaging videos.

REDFERNO CONFERENCE VIDEOS
Tom directed a series of videos for Redfinβs annual conference, Redferno, in which real Redfin staff spoke to the benefits of various Redfin tools.
His involvement began with pitching various creative treatments and carried through to leading the set designer, art director, wardrobe stylist and the camera department. He was also the primary liason between the client and production team, ensuring client feedback was properly integrated into the project.

The Lowdown - youtube series
Tom directed dozens of episodeβs for Sonyβs youtube show, The Lowdown.
For each shoot, his participation began with choosing how to integrate specific products with new βcreatorsβ to have as guests. He developed the story outlines, topics to be covered, interview questions, shot lists - working with the production team to also develop shooting diagrams (camera/lighting) and with the show hosts to feel comfortable speaking about the various subjects. On set, he ensured the hosts & guests staying on track while also creating time for intros, outros and transitions.

For this shoot, Tom worked with the F5 team to develop a concise AV script to showcase their success with generative ai. He directed the primary talent, a real F5 employee, to give an honest and engaging performance while ensuring the production team captured sufficient b roll footage to be used in conjunction with motion graphics.

Covid awareness - kids ask doctors
Tom has directed several Washington State Department of Health campaign videos over the past 4 years. For this project, Tom directed several real doctors and real children in English and Spanish as they moved from topic to topic about COVID-19. His involvement began with pitching various creative treatments, with the client ultimately landing on the βde-constructed classroomβ visual. He worked with the art director to make this vision come to life and maintained that level of involvement through production and post. He knew working with children would be a challenge, but successfully made them feel comfortable while also ensuring the production had the specific sound bites needed to execute this campaign.

Tom directed a series of videos for Saturna Capital, each highlighting a different fund or approach to investing. For each video, Tom took the dense subject matter and distilled it into a digestible script with visual components to complement each talking point. On set, he ensured the talentβs performance was believable & accurate while ensuring the camera department made space for the planned text or motion graphics components.

Tom worked with Baldwin & Co to execute the creative concepts they pitched to Zulily. His role involved developing shooting boards based on their existing creative outline and working with the art director to achieve the look & feel they were aiming for. On set, he ensured the camera team, props department and talent were in synch with their performance since many actions had very specific timings with the voice over. In post, he worked with the editor to ensure transitions felt smooth and natural.

Tom has worked with EBRP & Ed Vedder for several years, ensuring that information about this disease is shared with the world. These shoots have involved Tom directing Ed, based on an existing scrip providing by EBRP.
For each shoot, Tom develops a different creative treatment which is approved by Ed.
